| A few words about my path as a midwife...... My role as a midwife is primarily to provide support and information. I honor your ability to give birth, providing reassurance when all is going well, offering suggestions when you may benefit from guidance toward improved health, and referral to medical care in the rare instances when true complications develop. I am honored to serve families as they welcome a new baby into this world. As a midwife I never forget that I walk on sacred ground. I came to midwifery after the transforming experience of giving birth to my two beautiful daughters. I was passionately called to support other women through this journey of birth and motherhood, and to greet newborns in a gentle, respectful way. I am dedicated to preserving the safety and power of the natural birth process. I left behind a career in engineering and started studying midwifery in 1993, began attending births in 1995, serving as a primary midwife since 1998. I now serve as a preceptor, training student midwives. I keep current certifications in CPR and neonatal resuscitation. Life is a learning process, so I never quit studying. My continuing education includes studies in herbal medicine, homeopathy, uterine/abdominal massage, breastfeeding, fertility awareness and more.... Because how, where and with whom women give birth is a very political issue, I am active in the organized midwifery community. I am currently council chair for the Colorado Alliance of Independent Midwives where I join with other midwives and consumers to advocate for recognition of midwives as professional care providers, improved laws and regulations in Colorado, and greater access to midwifery care. |
